Key aims of the forum

  • Independent advocacy organisation, Advocacy Western Isles, established with Health Board and Council.

  • Western Isles Access Panel established with Council.

  • Lay Assessor Co-ordinator for Care Commission Lay Assessor Pilot Project, Western Isles area.

  • Direct Payments consultations.

  • Western Isles Allies in Change / Community Care Residential Conference organised with Scottish Human Services Trust and the Western Isles Health Board           

Focus of work 2005/2006

  • Work with Western Isles Access Panel to publish comprehensive Disabled Access Guide – target Summer 2005

  • Continue to co-ordinate Care Commission Lay Assessor pilot project throughout 2005.

  • Forum staff and members to continue to serve on committees, working groups and to contribute to consultations with external bodies.

  • Organise training for carers

  • Continue to publish Newsletter

  • Forums include users of services and carers.

  • Forum support for user-led groups.

  • Wide distribution of Newsletter and Minutes.

  • Work with both voluntary care and statutory agencies.

Key Issues of concern

Promote active involvement of users and carers in Health Board Service Re-design, expansion of independent advocacy service, further uptake of Direct Payments, involvement in consultations on the expansion of NHS 24.
