Key aims the Forum?
- To enable users/carers to have a voice in community care
- To provide a focal point for representation
- To work in partnership with other agencies in Fife to improve community care
Membership/management structure
LFCC has an open membership for anyone with an interest in community care, users of services and their cares and local voluntary organisations. The Forum nominates a committee every year and the committee members meet 4 times a year. There are 3 groups – East, West and Central Fife. These groups aim to meet every 2 – 3 months. Full member meetings take place at our yearly AGMs.
Key achievements of 2004/2005
- The development of a campaign for larger print on medicine bottle labels. This issue was raised at a local meeting and since we have gained support from other local charities, have included a full page article on this issue in our quarterly newsletter and we are looking to further campaign in order to combat this problem.
- Increased membership at our 3 groups – East, West and Central. This was done through networking and the distribution of our information leaflets.
- Strong partnerships with other organisations, for example, the Society for the Blind and WRVS.
Focus of work 2005/2006
- On-going development of the Forum through networking
- Creation of a website
Services that the Forum has helped set up and develop
We have tried to develop the local forum itself, concentrating our efforts in our own development, however, in the future we would like to help set up other organisations/services to aid members of the community.
Features that demonstrate Good Practice
- Regular meetings with constructive discussions
- Discussion with services users/carers and influencing and shaping local developments
Features that demonstrate user/carer involvement
We invite users/carers to attend our meetings and support them in attending. We encourage them to voice their opinions and raise any concerns/ideas that they have.
Key Issues of concern
- Our campaign for larger print on medicine bottle labels
- The issue of disabled parking facilities outside supermarkets
- Access to work and learning opportunities for carers of the disabled
